Breaking Ground: Latest Trial News
4 December 2023
We are excited to share our latest technical news on our trial with
Think Fencing, a
leading manufacturer in fencing, air ducting, garden and farming products, near
Geelong in Victoria.
After the manufacturer’s initial material analysis and testing of resilient flooring wastes, a larger scale trial has been conducted with one tonne of shredded resilient flooring waste, which Think Fencing then micronized onsite. The micronized recyclate was blended 3:1 with recycled unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (uPVC) window profile waste to give it extra stiffness, and then extruded into a sheet and embossed to produce a durable ‘wood grained’ garden edging product. The garden products were assessed to meet required weatherability requirements. A pilot extrusion line has now been designed to enhance the manufacturing process and end product and will be commissioned early in the New Year. Once this new product hits the store shelves in 2024, ResiLoop will be able to commence a scheme pilot to commence recovering resilient flooring waste. Stay tuned for more news. About ResiLoop ResiLoop is an initiative of ARFA to research and design an Australian resilient flooring product stewardship scheme. The project received funding from the Australian Government through the National Product Stewardship Investment Fund. ResiLoop has developed a business case, supported by proof of concept trials, for a national scheme supported by the industry in Australia. Based on material flow analysis of locally made and imported products consumed in the domestic market, it will address the logistics of recovering and sorting flooring waste streams, development of suitable recycling technologies and processes to produce recyclate of optimal quality, and identification and development of viable end markets for the material in Australia. |
